In November 1992, as a result of community consultations in both Penrith and Hawkesbury with Home and Community Care (HACC) Services and disability services, it was acknowledged that there was a significant gap in respite services for younger people with disabilites, in both local governments areas.
Existing service providers identifies a range of options as strategies to meet this gap in services These options included extensions to existing disability and HACC Services. The development of a respite cottage in the Hawkesbury and the extension of existing community options funding in both Local Government Areas.
Under Round 8 funding of the HACC Program, a number of submissions were received by the Department of Community Services (DoCS) - Nepean Area Office, including a proposal by Hawkesbury Area Senior Day Centre Inc. for a respite options service.
